Tarzan (1972) #207 continues from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes (1963) #206
After making his comic book debut in Dell Comics' Four Color Comics #134 and 161 in 1947, Tarzan was given his own Dell series in early 1948, running 131 issues (Jan.-Feb. 1948-Jul.-Aug. 1972) before license holder Western Publishing took the series to their own Gold Key Comics for issues #132-206 (Nov. 1962-Feb. 1972.) While largely uncredited in the books themselves, this series featured artwork by Jesse Marsh, Russ Manning and Doug Wildey and nearly every story was written by the prolific Gaylord DuBois.
In 1972, DC Comics took over the series and published issues #207-258 (Apr. 1972-Feb. 1977) initially under the direction of writer/artist/comics legend Joe Kubert.
In 1977 the series moved to Marvel Comics who changed the title to Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle and restarted the numbering at #1.
