Publisher: TV Publications, Ltd.
Publication Date: February 1971 - August 1973
Country: United Kingdom
A now fairly rare British comic series that tended to focus on adapting TV heroes in fairly conventional action stories. It's appropriate that Doctor Who stories starring the Third Doctor appeared in this comic, because his stories were largely earthbound.

This title underwent a number of different, sometimes subtle, name changes as it morphed from Countdown to TV Action. These changes have been noted in the titles of the individual issues where changes occurred.
However, it should be pointed out that the changes noted merely represent transition in the cover title. What was going on in the indicia was really very much more complicated. In the brief life of this title, TV Publications, Ltd. was infamously combining and recombining its several titles. At issue #7 Countdown was, largely unbeknownst to the reader, merged with Rocket, a title that had carried more "grown up" comic strips than, say, TV Comic. Thus the indicia read, Countdown and Rocket. Rocket remained in the indicia of this title throughout the rest of the run. At the height of this "combinative titling", the magazine was officially, but in no way commonly, known as TV Action/Countdown and Rocket.
Rocket, a magazine that had only run for 32 issues in the mid-1950s, thus persisted in various TV Publications indicia all the way to the final issue of this title. It was only dropped when TV Action was merged with TV Comic in 1973.
A part of Countdown's format was that page numbering is "backward". That is, the front cover page is deemed to be the last page of the book, while the back cover is usually numbered "page 1". In other words, the book literally "counts down". This practice was abandoned at issue #59, soon after the word "Countdown" was de-emphasized in favor of "TV Action".
