  • 2000 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards - Nominee - Best Limited Series: (by Paul Pope [DC/Vertigo])

Paul Pope had this to say of Heavy Liquid- "My new Vertigo miniseries Heavy Liquid is a sci fi story because it's set in the future. It's loaded with Mc-OMPS, collapsing robots, spy satellites and half hour scramjets. Blend that with concerns about our future, a love of rock music and a year of living in non-stop Manhattan, and you'll see where I'm coming from. For that reason, Heavy Liquid is really a story about change- and how we make it work for us. If you want proof of this, just take a flip through the first issue. What you'll find is an old-fashioned, limited color palette that reflects a new sensibility based on the kinds of comics that have insipired me: Japanese manga, classics like Kirby and Ditko, and Europeans like Pratt and Crepax. Heavy Liquid is something different, something new. I can't promise that all my ideas work well, because new ideas fail in new ways. But I hope you'll check it out and let me know." -Paul Pope, from "On The Ledge" October 1999
