Publisher: Marvel
Publication Date: March 1982 - January 1992
Country: United States
Language: English
Notes:
While this was neither the first direct-market (i.e., only available through specialty comics shops) comic title nor even the first such Marvel title (issue #1 of "Dazzler" was the first, although the book was available through the "newsstand" distribution--"ID"--system from #2), this WAS Marvel's first effort at an ONGOING Direct-Market title (as opposed to Marvel's Direct-Market only "Graphic Novels" which were intended as an upscale, and only occasional, program). Fanfare initially began with original material but over the years it became the home for "inventory" projects or material which had no other real outlets (such as issues #24-26, the "WeirdWorld" storyline, and issue #29, a previously unpublished Hulk story from Byrne's short-lived run in 1986).
Fanfare ultimately was cancelled largely due to the greater success of the similarly-themed Marvel Comics Presents series (tales which didn't necessarily fit into any of the regular Marvel titles and didn't necessarily warrant separate limited series treatments).
