Bio:
Created by Jack Kirby in Superman's Pal Jimnmy Olsen #133, it began life as "The DNA Project", and was run by another group also created by Kirby, the Newsboy Legion. It was initially opposed by the Darkseid-run Evil Factory, a monster-cloning facility.

After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the organization emerged as "Project Cadmus" in 1988's Superman Annual #2. In this time period it was notable for creating Superboy (III), and thus played an important role in the Superboy title of the 1990s. In issue #57 of that title, the Newsboys retired and the Project fell under the management of Mickey "the Mechanic" Cannon, and teenaged genius, Dr. Sterling Roquette--with the second cloned Guardian still providing security.

A new Evil Factory, under the control of Lex Luthor's ex-wife, resurfaced soon after Cadmus had restructured, and briefly overwhelmed the Guardian's security measures. But this was soon reversed.

Ultimately, the Project was destroyed not by villainy, but by politics. After Luthor won the Presidency, Cannon and the second Guardian clone grew to resent Luthor's pressure on the organization, so they used the events of the Imperiex War (that is, the war depicted in the Our Worlds at War event) as an excuse to quietly slip away, with Cadmus in hand, to parts unknown.
