    Werewolves (Marvel)
Search for 'Werewolves (Marvel)' on Amazon

Werewolves of the Marvel Universe are defined as human beings who suffer from a mystical affliction known as lycanthropy, which magically transforms them into a wolf-like form. Most afflicted with lycanthropy may be capable of assuming more than lupine shape. A four-legged wolf shape for example, or the more traditional human looking wolf like appearance where they walk on two legs. Generally speaking, all werewolves, in their afflicted form, have wolf-life physical attributes. These may include a coat of fur (which generally matches the color of the human's hair), a muzzle, large pointed ears, possibly a tail, sharp teeth and claws on their hands and feet (or paws). Most werewolves have some form of superhuman strength, enhanced speed and agility, enhanced senses and regenerative abilities which can actually cause them to cease showing signs of aging, expanding their life for hundreds of years.

Werewolves are vulnerable to weapons made of silver and can't heal from these wounds as quickly as they would from any normal wound. As typical in werewolf lore, something such as a silver bullet to the heart is the surest way to kill a werewolf. Some have sewn silver thread into their skin to stop their transformations.

Also as typical of werewolf lore, most werewolf transformations are governed by the phases of the moon, and humans suffering from lycanthropy will become werewolves on the three nights of the full moon each month.

Through-out the Marvel Universe, there are many examples of heroes and villains who take on the appearance of werewolves, but are not true werewolves. Some examples include Wolfsbane, Volk, The Hunters in Darkness, Ferocia, Carlos and Eduardo Lobo and the Man-Wolf/Stargod.
