Too much like a handbook - clerks1238
To start I want to say how much a love Roy and Dann's run on the Doc but I have to give this issue a 5. Now the story starts out looking pretty good with the Silver Surfer attacking Strange, but is fended off with a spell. While leaving the surfer shouts "Then I must return to Castle Frankenstein!" Doc heads to his Sanctum Sanctorum to read the Frankenstein history from the Book of the Vishanti. Now what follows is a ten page handbook history of the Frankenstein family. It's very slow and most of it you don't even need for the story. After learning all he can he makes his way to Switzerland to the second Castle Frankenstein where Ludwig Frankenstein with his servant Borgo created a Silver Surfer double. Strange breaks into a cell in the dungeon and frees Ludwig's daughter Victoria Von Frankenstein. She tells Doc that Borgo who was thought dead is in fact alive. He was helped and cared for by a local couple then went to Victoria for help. Using her father's X-Machine on Borgo he turns into a new Surfer double. Exploding into the castle Borgo strikes, but Strange takes the fight to the sky. Victoria finds her way outside were an older couple is walking by. The Surfer double yells “I must slay her who operated the X-Machine—that she may never reverse its effect!” Shooting a blast at Victoria he misses and kills the older lady from the couple. Once landing Borgo finds out the lady was the woman who cared for him. This ends the story, but in the letter page is the Sorcerous Sources. This tells all the comics where the info came from for the handbook past. Now a bad thing about the book is no Frankenstein Monster, he’s on the cover. In closing the story is ok and the handbook part is good for just that, but is eight pages to long.
