Founded in 1977 the publisher was famous for reprinting and continuing several German pulp comics such as "Sigurd", "Akim" or "Tibor", mostly penciled by Hansrudi Wäscher.
In the late 80ties Hethke tried to break into superheroes et al, publishing mostly DC superheroes (after Ehapa canceled their last remaining titles in 1988) as well as Marvel's "Timespirits" or Steve Rude's "Nexus". This proved a HUGE failure (due to overpriced editions that featured mostly a very poor binding as well) and by 1992 all series were canceled.
In 2005 Hethke tried to cash in in the growing Manga market and produced 2 magazine-sized issues of a magazine featuring ghost stories (with a touch of erotic).
In 2007 Norbert Hethke passed away and the publishing company was continued for a short while by his son, but by the end of 2007 Hethke Verlag ceased operations.
