2015-10-08 16:17:28 robotgetsbored Synopsis Part 2 of Superman: Arkham, continuing from Superman #160. As a twisted version of Lois Lane conducts experiments on Superman, Supergirl is plagued by visions showing her what she must do to save the Man of Steel. Meanwhile, Jimmy Olsen is accidentally transformed in to a monster, and Superman continues to escape Bizarro's clutches. FULL PLOT: SPOILERS As Mr. Mxyzptlk runs through the quiet streets of Metropolis, searching for Superman - the only man who can set the world right - he knows he has little time before he is stopped. Right on schedule, a safe falls out of nowhere and crushes him, leaving his quest unfulfilled. Meanwhile, at bizarre abbey known as the Temple of the Beatific Amazingly Wonderful Divine Holiness, Etc., Etc., Etc., Yadda Yadda Yadda, a newly arrived nun named Niece Matrix (an alternate version of Supergirl) receives a vision of Superman calling to her for help, and she screams in to the night. Her wails of pain bring the head of the abbey to her chambers, where she finds Supergirl hovering in the air, speaking in tongues. When she tries to get Supergirl down, she's hit with a bolt of pure energy. They have no choice but to call in an exorcist. That same night, Superman breaks out of Arkham Asylum once again. He knows it's only a matter of time before Bizarro catches up to him, but perhaps this night will be different. Suddenly a great light shines in front of him - a helicopter search light. Lois Lane is inside, and gives Superman 3 seconds to choose to come with or not - so he does. When Superman asks why she is helping him, Lois admits that Superman confuses her, is a puzzle to her, and she wants to solve it. Lois takes him to subterranean bunker where he can rest, but it quickly becomes apparent that she intends to get her answers forcibly through experimentation when she puts him in a cell with an electrified wall. Superman tries to escape, but the electricity is too much for him. Although Lois orders her scientists to begin, she finds herself disturbed by his cries of anguish, but cannot understand why she should care. After Superman escaped Arkham, like previous nights warden Grundy needed to get in contact with Bizarro to bring him in. When he phoned the JLA headquarters, Poison Ivy informed him that they did not know his current whereabouts. Frustrated that she has to follow Bizarro's orders, Poison Ivy rants about him, until she suddenly runs in to him. Quickly she pretends she was speaking Bizarro's language, complimenting him instead of insulting him. This appeases Bizarro, who then leaves to find Superman. Down on earth, as science has become forbidden, a frustrated Professor Hamilton attempts to gather what few students he can to teach them what he knows. His lesson is interrupted, however, as the Turtle tumbles in fighting the villain The Flab (an alternate Flash). The Turtle ends up biting Jimmy Olsen, in attendance, who ends up transforming in to The Giant Turtle Boy. Meanwhile, an exorcism is attempted to "save" Supergirl, who mutters that she must help Superman, who in turn must help save them all. Despite their best efforts, Supergirl manages to escape in to the night. At Lois' bunker, her team is alerted that Bizarro has found them, so she has no choice but to free Superman. He thanks her, and is drawn to her, and kisses her. She tells him to leave before she changes her mind, clearly affected by the apparent chemistry between them. As Superman flees, Bizarro and JLA member Scorch catch up to him and fight to bring him back to Arkham. Superman finds a power within him he didn't know, and manages to fend off the two attackers, but he's tired and crashes. Just as he thinks all is lost, Supergirl comes to him, sporting the Superman S emblem. Just as hope has come to Superman, it's interrupted when Jimmy - the Turtle Boy - shows up and, easily overpowering the exhausted Superman, opens his maw and swallows him whole. Unknown to them, Lois Lane watches through a remote feed. She cries seeing Superman hurt, still not knowing why she should care about his fate. Her cries are interrupted when, right on cue, the nightly cry of pain echoes through the sky. Part 2 of Superman: Arkham, continuing from Superman #160. As a twisted version of Lois Lane conducts experiments on Superman, Supergirl is plagued by visions showing her what she must do to save the Man of Steel. Meanwhile, Jimmy Olsen is accidentally transformed in to a monster, and Superman continues to try to escape Bizarro's clutches. Plot (Spoilers): As Mr. Mxyzptlk searches Metropolis for Superman, a safe magically falls out of the sky and crushes him in order to stop him. Elsewhere, Supergirl (called Niece Matrix in this world) is a nun at a strange temple. She has a vision of Superman calling out to her for help. The other nuns think something is wrong with her, and call in an exorcist. That same night, Superman breaks out of Arkham Asylum again. This time Lois Lane finds him first, and offers him help if he'll go with her. Superman accepts, and Lois takes him to a subterranean bunker where she has a team of rebel scientists (science being forbidden in this world) perform experiments on Superman without his consent, using electric shocks to subdue him. Although Lois wants answers as to who he is, she feels pity when she hears his screams, but doesn't know why she should care about him. After Superman escaped, Bizarro was called to bring him in, but Poison Ivy answered the JLA phone instead. After the phone call, she rants to the other JLA "heroes" that she hates working for him. Bizarro comes in at that moment, so she pretends she was using his language to give him compliments. Bizarro falls for it and rushes off to find Superman, taking his team mate (and love interest) Scorch with him. At a local university, Professor Hamilton attempts to teach a small group of potential students (including Graveyard Lad, an alternate Jimmy Olsen) about science, which is difficult because it's forbidden. The lesson is interrupted when the Turtle crashes in fighting The Flab (a mocked version of The Flash). The Turtle ends up biting Jimmy, which transforms him in to The Giant Turtle Boy. Lois' team is alerted that Bizarro is coming for Superman, so she frees him. Superman kisses her before leaving, making Lois wonder why she is drawn to him. Bizarro and Scorch catch up to Superman and a fight breaks out, but Superman finds a hidden power source within him and manages to defeat them. Tired from the fight, he crashes and prepares to be apprehended. However, Supergirl - having escaped the exorcist at the abbey - appears as a winged angel before him. Jimmy the Turtle Boy then shows up and easily overpowers the exhausted Superman, opening his mouth to eat him. Lois watches this from a remote camera feed, and cries seeing Superman defeated, but still doesn't know she she's drawn to care about him. Her sobs are interrupted when, right on cue, the nightly cries of pain can be heard in the city.
