Synopsis
|
|
The X-Men finish a Danger Room session, and then Professor X tells them to take some time off (so he can work on something secret in private). He also has Scott return some books on pre-Columbian Americas to Jean. Warren offers Scott a lift, and the two resolve to declare their affection to Jean and have her choose.
At Metro College, Jean and Ted Roberts are hanging out when Ralph Roberts drives by - the two have a sibling rivalry thing going, and Ted ends up challenging Ralph to a pole vaulting contest. Ralph loses because his pole snaps, and bangs his head. Waving off his throbbing noggin as no problem, he takes Jean and Ted out to a meal. Warren and Scott happen to be driving by, and join them in the diner. Over dinner, Ralph invites all of them to see his lab, and all except Warren accept.
Elsewhere, Hank and Bobby are of course on a double date with Vera and Zelda, where they are being subjected to the horrible verse of Bernard the Poet at the Coffee A Go-GO. Warren wanders into what he thought would be Pizza Paradise and finds a 'disko', where he runs into his childhood friend Candy Southern (whom he had long been attracted to).
At Ralph's lab, while Scott and Jean look at some of his work he takes his brother aside to see the Cobalt Man suit. He dons it, and suddenly he feels funny, and his personality changes. Declaring Tony Stark a "traitor", he knocks Ted out, briefly battles Scott and Jean (as Cyclops and Marvel Girl), and takes off to destroy the newest Stark Industries factory. Using their wrist-watch communicators, all the X-Men are alerted. Beast, Iceman, and Angel find Cobalt Man first, and battle is joined. Cyclops and Jean arrive with Ted, who tells them that the suit's reactor is unstable, and after two hours it will start a nuclear reaction - and those two hours are almost up! Iceman and Cyclops manage to fry Cobalt Man's circuits by forcing ice deep into the transistors of the armor, saving Ralph and preventing a nuclear catastrophe.
