Synopsis:
As Mellu attempts to burn Shade to death, we learn her origin and the background of the treason charges against him. Shade manages to flee into the Zero-Zone, where he saves Sgt. Barak from flesh-eating Goens.
Captain Majan suggests that Mellu's failure to kill Shade should be cause for her to resign. Mellu's parents are pelased that she failed, even though it hurt her career, because they suspect Shade may be innocent. Shade goes to his former trainer, Colonel Kabe Kross, for assistance in proving his innocence, and is advised to see Captain Majan.
Kross reports this to Sude, who sends an operative called Cloak, who is invisible, to kill Captain Majan while Shade is present, which Mellu witnesses. Kross and Mellu resume their attempts to capture and kill Shade.
