Synopsis:
A look behind how the art for Ex Machina is created. Following an introduction by Brian K. Vaughan, the issue begins with the opening six pages of Ex Machina #23, broken down into script, pencils, gray-washed inks, and color stages. Next, Tony Harris walks through the making of the covers for Ex Machina #1, 4, 5, 12, the Ex Machina Specials, and TPB. vol #2 & 3. Photo reference, digital compositing, pencils, inks, and colors are accompanied by Harris's commentary on the process of creation. Harris also presents a gallery of reference photos, incedental illustrations, and a look at a computer model of the Great Machine's jetpack that he commissioned for use as reference. The issue concludes with an afterword from Harris.
