The Sensational New Adventure Strip Character-
WONDER WOMAN!

Format: Color; Standard Comic Issue; 64 pages

Story Arc(s):    Add/remove story arcs to this issue

Synopsis:
The lead story in the book, retroactively entitled "Wonder Woman Comes to America", could just as well be "The Origin of Wonder Woman, part two". A direct sequel to All Star Comics #8, this story details Wonder Womans return of Steve Trevor to his military life in the US. It also shows Diana taking up the identity of "Diana Prince" and beginning her life as a spy...well, nurse in the US Military.

The Black Pirate, now fairly well-established, gets a significant story in this issue as well, in which he marries Donna Bonita and agrees to work for Spain, both of which will have lasting effects upon the series.

The other four stories introduce, by way of origin stories, Wildcat, Mr. Terrific, Little Boy Blue, and The Gay/Grim Ghost.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a single comic with as many important developments for so many diverse characters.

Reprinted/Collected in:

The Greatest Golden Age Stories Ever Told (1990) HC
The JSA All Stars Archives (2007) HC vol. 01

Superboy (1949) #185

Notes:
Especially in light of the popular 1999 revival of the Justice Society of America, this is one of those "important" issues. More firsts are in this book than should be allowed by law: first appearance of Mr. Terrific, Little Boy Blue, The Gay (later Grim) Ghost, Wildcat, the Invisible Plane, Diana Prince.

Modern day fans of Wonder Woman, especially those exposed to the 70s TV show, would be surprised to discover that her origin story was effectively split across two separate titles. But neither All Star Comics #8 nor Sensation #1 can lay claim to the whole of what we now consider to be "the" origin of the Golden Age Wonder Woman.
