Synopsis:
Adam Strange, disheveled and frustrated by his inability to see his wife and daughter on Rann, has been taken in by the Gotham police investigating a mysterious explosion that occurred at Strange's home. He describes his origins to the detective and how he went from the champion of Rann to a shiftless bum.
The zeta beam that meant to take him home again never returned. He called on the aid of Superman to check on it, who breaks the bad news to him; Rann's primary star supernovaed, destroying the entire planetary system. The detectives don't believe him, however. After they leave the room, he frees himself from the handcuffs and knock them out before running into an alien bathed in zeta radiation who tells him that the supernova was faked. Strange steals the creature's jetpack and zooms off, only to be confronted with another enemy.
