Synopsis: On the run in South America, archaeologist Adam Strange literally runs into a strange beam of light. This so-called "Zeta Beam" transports him to a strange planet some 25 trillion miles distant. Stumbling around this planet, which he discovers to be called "Rann", he encounters the most beautiful woman he's ever seen. Her name is Alanna, daughter of that world's most daring scientist, Sardath. After a period of inculcation and education, Strange is made aware not only of Rann's language and customs, but also its problems. Though once a kind of paradise of technological advancement, learning and justice, an epic war has left the civilization in tatters, with a majority of the population reverting to barbarism. Just as he is learning all this, the city, Kamorak, comes under attack yet again from alien invaders. He and Alanna are able to outwit their attackers and send them to another dimension. Just as he kisses Alanna in celebration of their victory, the Zeta radiation in his body wears off and he is transported back to Earth. He takes comfort in the knowledge that he can calculate the regular recurrence of the Zeta Beam on Earth, and knows that he will be able to return to his new love.
Synopsis: Details Adam's second trip to Rann, and an encounter with the people of Ranagar, who have gotten technology from the aliens in the first story. With it, they create a giant pendulum and mean to slice through Kamorak's protective shield, as depicted on the cover of the issue. But Strange has now discovered a special suit in a crashed spacecraft. Donning his trademark "uniform" for the first time, he dispatches the alien pendulum and fully embraces his destiny as "Defender of Rann".
