The "Spirits" of Blue Mountain are holding the WolfRiders slaver (shades of Troll-dom anyone?) but Strongbow has been selected for a special torture. As events proceed we learn that the large bird the WolfRiders shot down for food was the intended Bond-bird of the glider named Kureel and since Strongbow shot the arrow...

Trying to mediate some kind of peace Lord Voll, lord of the Gliders, suggests that Briersting, Strongbow's wolf-friend, be sacrificed to balance the loss of Kureel's intended bond-bird. It is explained that it would be akin to asking them to kill their own children and Ember & Suntop are summoned to the hollowed-out mountain to prove that there ARE indeed still children of elfin blood on the World of Two Moons.

Then Winnowill makes the assertation that any search for "children of the highones" is over as the Gliders ARE the High Ones!
