Descending the cliff with the deathwater (with Olbar's help) Cutter & Skywise make their way to the Forbidden Grove. There are cocoons everywhere and when the hungry elves cut one open they find live animals, trapped alive. Deciding this is some weird insect's food cache but that there is no sign of the webspinners, Cutter goes in search of food while Skywise rests.

Cutter opens a small cocoon to find a young wolf cut and is amazed when he scents his children on the cub's fur. He takes the cub back to have his olfactory discovery confirmed to find preservers cocooning his friend in wrapstuff.

He captures the leader of the preservers, Petalwing, and drives the rest off. Skywise confirms that the twins' scent is on the wolf cub and Cutter sends through wrapstuff to find his mate and children. Reunion!

Leetah and the twins tell Cutter and Skywise how they came to be here so far from Sorrow's End and Cutter sets off to rescue the rest of his small tribe.
