Hector Hall and his pregnant wife, Lyta are trapped in a self-contained dream world in the mind of a boy named Jed by the creatures Brute and Glob. Only, they don't know it. Hector was the superhero known as The Sandman, and he believes he still is.
Dream shows up to set Brute and Glob straight, which brings everything crashing down. Unknown to everyone, Jed runs away, but is picked up by a very dangerous man.
