Hank Pym is reconstructing Dr Spectrum's prism as a birthday present for Jan. He hides it in a drawer, but she discovers it. It fuses onto her hand and takes control of her. The new Jan/prism entity then attacks quicksilver, Wonder Man, and finally, Iron Man, whom she perceives as her greatest threat, since he defeated her before with ultraviolet light. She puts the three Avengers in a capsule and hides it in the Atlantic Ocean. Yellowjacket, then the Beast, Captain America, Black Panther, and Ms Marvel burst in on the prism entity, and a battle ensues. Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye then join the battle. Finally, the Vision defeats her with ultraviolet light. Hank then reveals that the enemy is Jan, who has been taken over by the gem. Dr Donald Blake is called to attend Janet. He says that he can do nothing for her, so the Avengers go to Dr Strange for help. Dr Strange tells the Avengers the current whereabouts of the Squadron Sinister, as well as the fact that he removed their memories of their past, but that if the Avengers try to get help from the previous Dr Spectrum, the spell will be broken and all of the Squadron will regain their memories. The Avengers split up to go to the former Squadron members. Dr Strange is unable to accompany them. Vision, Ms Marvel, and Black Panther go to a gym which the former Hyperion owns. Thundra is his employee. Hyperion regains his memory, and he and Thundra battle the three Avengers. Eventually, though, the battle ends when Vision convinces Hyperion that his vendetta against the entire earth because a few scientists accidentally destroyed his microscopic world is misguided. Next, Cap, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye find the former Whizzer working in a factory. His memory returns when he sees them, and he attacks them. They defeat him. Finally, the Beast encounters the former Dr Spectrum, who is now a faith healer. He recovers his memory and agrees to help Janet. Once he goes there, He takes the gem back and becomes Dr Specrtum again, and attacks the Avengers. However, the gem wants to take control of Thor, so he leaves Dr Spectrum and grafts onto Thor's hammer, and Thor now attacks the Avengers. When the gem changed hands, the capsule holding Iron Man, Wonder Man, and Quicksilver dissolves, and they escape, and head back to Avengers Mansion. Iron Man is able to defeat Thor by separating him from the hammer. Once the hammer changes back into Dr Blake's walking stick, the gem disappears.
