Synopsis: Johnny overhears some students at school talk about how the developer Bentley is losing house after house as they sink into the swamp. At the construction site an old farmer warns Bentley that the swamp demons are responsible and want him to get out of the swamp.
The Torch shows up on site to help look into what he believes is sabotage. He finds nothing by the light of day but comes back at night for a stakeout. He witnesses the farmer and two alien beings point a electro gamma wave gun at the soil causing the soil to become soft and weak. Johnny follows the three and the two aliens fade away. As the Torch, he confronts the farmer who turns out to be an alien as well and shoots an anti-matter electron gun at him dousing his flame. The Torch is then led into the alien's dimension through a portal.
In this "5th Dimension" he is told of their leader's plan to invade Earth. The only way to get to Earth is through that portal in the swampland. Johnny is locked up but then broken free by rebels within the city.
They elicit the Torch's help in destroying the arsenal intended for Earth. He ends up helping start an uprising and putting his liberators into power while removing his captors. Although the young lady from the 5th dimension wanted him to stay, he went back to Glenville.
