In order to confront the threat of Legion, Professor X and Mirage travel to the Astral Plane, where they encounter different aspects of Legion's personality, some hoping to help the New Mutants, others trying to stop them. It is on the Astral Plane where Charles learns of his true relationship to Legion and Gabrielle recounts the trauma which created Legion's fractured psyche in the first place. It is then that Charles makes it a personal mission to free Legion's true personality from those holding it hostage.
