The Sixth Doctor and Frobisher visit the grandchildren of Peri and Yrcanos, only to find them embroiled in a civil war.

This is something of an oddity in the history of Doctor Who comics. Despite the fact that the term "graphic novel" is applied to several items bearing the name Doctor Who, this is the only item in the history of Doctor Who comics to be a novel-length story in its original form. As of 2007, so-called "Doctor Who graphic novels" are really just collected editions of individual (though sometimes narratively-linked) stories.

While 96 pages will not seem extraordinary to a modern audience, it is actually a behemoth in the world of Doctor Who comics, which have never been originally printed at even standard American comic book length.

Creative chores on the book were divided into two teams. The first quarter (24 pages) were done by John M. Burns on pencils and inks, with letters provided by Jane Smale. The final three-quarters were done by Barrie Mitchell and Amer Anwar. Given that Mitchell had the bulk of the artistic chores, the book is further credited as being "by Colin Baker and Barrie Mitchell".
Interestingly, this work was originally in color, predating the general use of color by the Doctor WHo Magazine staff by well over three years. While the Eighth Doctor was the first Doctor to have his comic adventures regularly and originally printed in color, this adventure is the first time Marvel printed an original Doctor Who story in color.
There is no support in the indicia for calling this work, Doctor Who Magazine Special #27. Indeed, the indicia would have us believe this is a one-off called Doctor Who: Age of Chaos. However, numbering of issues of Doctor Who Magazine Special on either side of this issue would depend upon this logically being number 27.
