Synopsis:
Neophyte betrayed the Acolytes in a battle against the X-Men (Uncanny X-Men #300). Exodus decides to hold a trial to determine the wayward youth’s fate. Voght is choosen to be the prosecutor while Colossus volunteers to defend the boy. Piotr takes a quick moment to talk to Amelia. He hopes she will listen to her conscience and provide a fair and independent argument. She explains that she doesn’t trust her own judgments and has chosen instead to do what she is told.

Before he convenes the court, Exodus holds a private conference with a comatose Magneto. He believes the silent savior talks to him and leads the disciples through him. To maintain his direct and sole relationship with the master of magnetism, Exodus decreed that nobody else may look at the lifeless body, so when Scanner takes a peek, she is punished within an inch of her life.

The trial starts with Voght expressing the depth of Neophyte’s betrayal. She calls Milan to testify. He uses his mutant abilities to recount how the Acolytes found the defendant hiding in an abandoned church in Switzerland. They gave him a home, a purpose, and a leader. He repaid them with treachery.

Colossus reminds the court that Magneto once chose to ally himself with Xavier. The defendant should also have the same right to make his own decisions. Neophyte speaks for himself. His realized that the Acolytes may not be his chosen path when he witnessed them torture Moira MacTaggert. Xavier offered a better way. Unuscione grabs the boy with her exoskeleton for his blasphemy, but Voght reacts quickly separating the two.

Exodus halts the fighting and leaves to consult with Magneto. While they wait, Voght suggests that perhaps neither Xavier nor Magneto is 100% correct, and Piotr expresses second thoughts about joining the Acolytes. Exodus returns, but before he can announce the verdict, Colossus makes one last appeal. Magneto would have respected Neophyte's decision; no one deserves blind obedience. Exodus pronounced Neophyte's punishment: exile from Avalon. The Acolyte leader teleports the convicted mutant to Earth realizing his rule will no longer go unquestioned. Piotr leaves the proceedings glad he took a stand even though he may have alienated the other.

Magneto smiles.
