Amidst the celebration over the victory of Invasion, Adam Strange assures Abby that Swamp Thing is still alive. The same cannot be said for Matt Cable, who is in the Neo-Mort unit in the hospital, where Abby visits him without authorization. Dr. Hubert Sax insists that Matt has no health insurance and that she is financially liable for over a million dollars in care that her home country would automatically have covered.
Matt dreams that he is married to Eve, while the hospital demands over a million dollars in payment from Abby for Matt's care. Eve reveals her crone form to Matt. Dream comes to him and offers him work in the Dreaming, telling him that Eve is a helpful spirit, especially good in misogyny cases. Abby thinks she married Matt because no one in her village would have her, being an Arcane.
Abby steals into the Neo-Mort ward again, Sax insisting that a signed organ donor card allows them to do with Matt's remains as they like, even if it means keeping them alive with machines until the organs can be harvested. Dream tells Matt that he has a duty to relieve Abby of the financial burden ($12,000 per day on the machines), and he wakes long enough to pull the plugs so that she doesn't have to.
John Constantine visits Abby in the bayou and contacts Ritchie Simpson, who informs them that all reference to D.D.I., which was supposed to be paying for Matt's health care all this time, has been deliberately deleted by a virus.
Many characters' appearances in this issue are simply likenesses as either people or decor on parade floats--Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Wonder Girl, the Dominators, and the Khunds, and a float depicting the fallen heroes of the Invasion--Swamp Thing, Jet, Celsius, and Scott Fischer. Swamp Thing's image is shown with long, facial tendrils unlike his usual appearance, but similar to his appearance next issue.
