Synopsis:
Small Federation ships have been disappearing in the quadrant where Enterprise now finds itself. Pike and crew surmise that an organic vessel nearby may be responsible. The ship abducts him and telepathically forces him to relieve early memories of a time when he first came on board Enterprise and began to select his crew. Back on Enterprise, Number One plans a rescue attempt for Pike, while Spock and Dr. Bryce work on a cure for a mysterious epidemic onboard.
