Conan has been sent by the king of Makkalet to Pah-Dishah to deliver his message asking for military assistance. After delivering the message Conan intends to take advantage of the opportunity to escape from the besieged city, but is forced to return to it by the relenless pursuit of 'The Vulture' a noted slaver that has been hired by Prince Yezdigerd to kill him. While the bulk of the issue is devoted to Conan and his adventures, Red Sonja makes her first appearance in this issue, twice saving Conan's life in the process. She also plays a major, if background, part in Conan's defeat of 'The Vulture'.
