Synopsis: Taking Luke's dewback out for a spin, Luke and his friend Windy set out to prove they are they are "grown up" by venturing to the dangerous Judland Wastes. Unfortunately, they're still small enough to be knocked around a bit by a sudden sandstorm. Deprived of their mount, they find themselves on foot when a kayt dragon appears, forcing them into a cave.
They are saved by an unlikely hero: an old man dressed in robes. He introduces himself as Ben Kenobi, then somehow magically dispatches the dragon. After Ben takes them back to the Lars homestead, Luke is surprised to find that his Uncle is none too happy to see their aged rescuer. Owen angrily orders the obedient Kenobi off the tiny moisture farm without showing the least bit of gratitude.
Notes: This story gives amplification to a story briefly recounted by Luke in the Star Wars radio adaptation by Brian Daley. In the radio adaptation of the movie, C-3P0 asks Luke if he had ever met Ben before, and Luke responds with an abridged version of this story.
