Synopsis:
Magni and Modi discover Thor's hammer and dispatch it to Earth where its impact creates the Rhine river and a hoard of gold called the Rhinegold. Vili, Ve, Vidar, and Vali join together through Gungnir to become Odin. Odin then brings the Asgardians we know to life and lies to them about their creation. Odin has two storm giants, Fafnir and Fasolt, build the walls of Asgard in exchange for the fair Idunn. Loki had vowed to trick them so that Odin would never have to pay the price. Loki turns over Idunn to the giants, but Thor intercedes and attacks them. Odin puts a quick end to the battle since he is held by his pledge. Meanwhile on Earth, Alberich the Gnome steals the Rhinegold.

Much of this issue is based on Richard Wagner's opera tetralogy, "Der Ring des Nibelungen" ("The Ring of the Nibelung"). This issue specifically covers a portion of the first opera, "Das Rheingold" ("The Rheingold").
