Cloak wanders the streets looking for a corrupt soul to feed his incredible hunger. He allows his cape of darkness to claim a pimp using drugs and abuse to keep a prostitute in-line. The dependent teenager pleads for the criminal's release, and with effort, Cloak concedes. Dagger arrives to sustain him with her excess light. She then uses her purifying light knives free the drug-addicted girl from her destructive habit.

The vigilantes return to their sanctuary and quietly witness the wake of a mother who died from an aspirin laced with cyanide. Following the congregation's departure, Dagger tries to use her abundant light to resurrect the murdered woman. Her attempt fails.

After the funeral, Detective O'Rielly returns to her office and finds Cloak and Dagger. She reacts quickly, but her bullets pass harmlessly into Cloak's shadowy form. Astounded, the police officer agrees to let to the pair help find the madman. Once they learn what they can from her, however, they vanish.

Cloak and Dagger find Duane Hellman at a closed pharmacy adding a tainted bottle of children's medicine to the shelves. Dagger's first strike shakes the killer. He scrambles for the store owner's shotgun but misses his targets. Detective O'Rielly speeds to the scene arriving in time to see Cloak's abyss swallow the criminal. Brigid reaches into the dark oblivion but can not free him. He may be gone forever.
