The Thing apprehends some criminals only to find little, if any, appreciation from local law enforcement. When he returns to the Baxter building, disgruntled, he finds Sue Storm disappointed by how much time Reed spends "deep in thought" and attempts to portray his frustrations over how he thinks he should be treated only to be ignored.
As Ben mutters his frustrations to himself, a deactivated doombot suddenly starts speaking, provoking Ben to smash it's head off it's body. Still it speaks, insinuating that Reed is holding back a great amount of truth, the truth that can be found if he were to put on Doom's space folding gauntlet. After he puts it on, apprehensively, he finds himself transported to Latveria where he talks to Doom face to face, quite literally as Doom removes his mask and explains to Ben of the evils Reed Richards has commited, including holding back information on reversing the affects of the cosmic radiation that transformed him into the Thing. He then offers to reverse the effects himself, sending him through a staircase that freezes light and turns time into space. When he reaches his destination he finds he is no longer Ben Grimm and that his environment on Yancy street has changed as well and in his bewilderment gets hit by a car leaving him broken and bloody in the street as Doom boasts, "How to destroy a man: grant him his heart's desire."
