Letters Column: Avengers Assemble!
Spider-Man breaks into Avengers Mansion to announce that he wants to be an Avenger (he does so for the money). They tell him that he may be allowed in as an Avenger-in-training. They then get a distress cal from a secret lab in upstate NY. Spider-Man isn't allowed to go for security reasons, but hitches a ride on the quinjet and follows them. Upon landing, they find that he is there. They allow him to join them, because he's been there before. They go in, and find that the facility has been attacked by lava men. They call Captain Marvel to join them. They are, after a short battle, able to determine (because the lava men worship Captain Marvel) that the lava men are only retaliating because the surface dwellers have unwittingly attacked their home, and after the misunderstanding is cleared up, both sides agree to peace. However, unbeknownst to everyone, a villain known as Blackout has escaped, and he frees Moonstone. She then convinces Blackout that they should free Electro and the Rhino, so that the four of them can wreak havoc on the lab.
