The Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #181 - Comic Book DB
Spider-Man visits a cemetery in Flushing, Queens to pay his respects to Uncle Ben on this anniversary of his death. Spidey reminisces and recalls the many major events of his career. Four pages are dedicated to retelling the origin story from AMAZING FANTASY #15, with another page dedicated to recapping the events of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1. All the major villains are touched upon in short order with their appearances noted. The tragic deaths of Captain Stacy and his daughter Gwen are given a page. Current characters such as Morbius and the Punisher are also mentioned, as is the series' supporting cast. Spidey's reverie is interrupted when he sees Aunt May approaching. He leaps into a tree and observes his aunt lay flowers on the grave, saying he'll watch over her and make sure she gets on the bus safely. Spider-Man's final gesture is to leave on Uncle Ben's grave the microscope he was given years ago. After Spidey swings away it is stumbled upon by a struggling cemetery caretaker who is delighted to find such a nice gift to give to his son.
The splash page credits Stan Lee and Steve Ditko as "Inspiration." A caption on that same page reads: "Dedicated to our older fans who lived these events with us--and to our new fans discovering the Spider-Man legend for the first time!
