Letters Column: Avengers Assemble!
The Beast in enjoying himself in a nightclub, when a jealous drunk picks a fight with him. His good time ruined, the Beast leaves. Walking home, he encounters a strange, bedraggled man, who speaks a bunch of gibberish, including that he has come to die for Hank. He is then struck by a lightning bolt, and obliterated. The Beast is shaken by this, and can't stop thinking about the mysterious man. Later, he is out with his friend Winnie, and she asks him to steal back a box which was stolen from her. A two-faces man who calls himself the Manipulator is in a room with some gangsters, telling them he has a device which will allow him to control the Avengers, and that the Beast will be showing up in order to help him demonstrate this. When the Beast sneaks into the next room, in order to take the box for Winnie, a cage falls on him. When he opens the box, he is struck by a beam which overwhelms his senses and memories, making him fall under the sway of the Manipulator. The skeptical mobsters are convinced, and agree to pay the Manipulator. He then strikes them with a ray, immobilizing them. The FBI enter the room. The Manipulator was working for them, and gives them a prototype of his mind stimulator. With the police on their way, the FBI, the Manipulator, and the Beast all manage to escape before the police show up.
