When Optimus Prime and his Autobots left Cybertron millions of years ago, the battle between Autobots and Decepticons was still waging with no winner in sight. My how times have changed.
Cybertron today is completely overrun by Decepticons who have sectioned off the world into small provinces, each ruled by a warlord. Polyhex is but one of these provinces, and the robots there live under the brutal thumb of Lord Straxus.
Blaster and his pal Scrounge are part of the dwindling Autobot resistance in Polyhex. Scrounge has been sent to the Decepticon fortress of Darkmount to discover why Straxus is interested in Spanner, a scientist who pledges allegiance to neither side but who is an expert on interdimensional engineering.
When Scrounge doesn't come home, Blaster suspects he's been captured by the Decepticons and ventures to Darkmount to discover the truth.
Unfortunately for Blaster, he's right: Scrounge was nabbed and was chucked into the Smelting Pit to be melted down. Blaster finds this out the hard way when he's captured and tossed in himself. He finds Scrounge, barely operational and half-melted.
Before he succumbs to the Smelting Pit, Scrounge gives Blaster the information he intercepted. Rescued from the pit by his fellow Autobots who have staged a daring assault on Darkmount, Blaster returns to their hidden base and plays back the recording.
It's a transmission from Soundwave on Earth, describing their situation and plans for taking over the planet. It's a grim discovery, until Soundwave relays that there's a force of Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, who stand in their path to victory.
Their hope restored by news of Prime's survival, the remaining Autobots celebrate the retrieval of this good news, while Blaster mourns the loss of his friend whose sacrifice was not in vain.
