Synopsis:
The Mutates commandeer a Japanese aircraft carrier and the New Mutants are deployed in response in an attempt to defuse a potential international incident.

Sunspot, Cypher, and Warlock board the carrier while the rest of the team intercepts Sauron. Sunspot quickly assesses the need for back-up when his team encounters the Mutates. Cannonball keeps Sauron occupied while Dani and Karma come to the rescue. Karma tries to use her telepathy to subdue the Mutates but is unsuccessful.

Cyclops and Emma Frost observe the operation from Utopia while discussing the team's effectiveness. Emma is critical while Cyclops remains confidant and hopeful that a future leader will emerge.

After dealing with Sauron, Cannonball helps Sunspot to subdue the Mutates. However, during the conflict, they come into physical contact with Worm's slime thus placing the two of them under Worm's mental control. When Dani Moonstar and Karma board the ship, she is able to take control of Worm's mind and thus has control over everybody Worm was controlling.

It is while Karma is in Worm's mind that his plan is revealed. Worm got word that Asteroid M had risen from the sea and that he intended to rejoin Magneto. Karma then explains that Magneto has rejoined the X-men, and they were welocome to Utopia as long as they abided by their rules. They decide to return to the Savage Land.
