Amanda Dove is haunted by Lt. Tony Smith, her fiance, who has been killed in a war led by General John Whitman. The Phantom Stranger shows her a past life in ancient Rome in which Trelah, she, encourages her fiance, Marcus, to enlist in the army against his wishes, only to have him perish in the first strike. Smith's ghost tells her to go to Whitman, the reincarnation of Marcus, and get him to stop the war.
