Iron Man fights the Mandarin's Death Squad and proceeds to the Mandarin's castle. O'Brien uses Iron Man's model 02 armor to return the quinjet to the USA. Iron Man fights the Mandarin, who explains that he's behind Stark's defense systems failing. His plan was to start World War III by launching nuclear missiles from China, without the defense systems working, expecting the USA to assume China and Russia were behind the attack. He then explains how he survived being killed by the Yellow Claw. O'Brien returns to Stark International and tells Sitwell that Iron Man is fighting the Mandarin in China. Iron Man uses an electro-magnetic repellor to remove the Mandarin's rings, winning their fight, but Mandarin launches his missiles, completing his plan. In Washington, Jon opens Stark's attache case, but it's booby trapped, shooting tear gas into the congressional hearing. Stark and Hawk had sabotaged the attache case, planning to expose whoever would use it against Stark. Jon is arrested. With his stooge revealed, Mandarin kills Jonathan Rich from afar. Iron Man destroys the Mandarin's castle but leaves him alive, telling Mandarin to remember that he could have killed him, but didn't.
