The Doll's House

Once every century, Death takes human form and lives among us for one day. On a day in 1398, Dream accompanies her. They overhear a man claiming that death is for suckers, and no one really has to die. They decide to grant him immortality and he agrees to meet Dream in the same place in 100 years' time. Their relationship over then ensuing centuries is the focus of the rest of the story.
