A Death in the Family

Synopsis:
Batman arrives too late to stop the bomb from detonating. Searching through the rubble, Batman finds Jason's mother, who reveals a startling piece of information before she dies in his arms. Searching for Jason, Batman finds his lifeless body. Heartbroken, Batman returns to Gotham City to mourn his fallen friend. When he arrives however, he learns the shocking identity of Iran's new UN Emissary.

Prior to the publication of this issue, the fates of Robin and his mother were unclear. DC set up a 1-900 number that readers could dial to vote on Robin's fate for $1.00 per call; the vote to kill Robin narrowly edged out the vote to have him found alive by Batman, resulting in the death of Jason Todd, Robin II.
