Letters Column: Magneto Rex

Dr. Alda Huxley attempts to allay United Nations’ fears regarding Magneto’s new role as leader of the Genosha. She asks for their patients for she has the mutant dictator right where she wants him.

Magneto makes his stand against the rebellion. His council joins Rogue, Voght and Quicksilver as they hold back Zealot’s mutate army. The real battle rages between new ruler and the rebel leader. Zealot gains the upper hand as he forces the ground to swallow the Master of Magnetism. Cortez verbalizes what they all suspect; the war will be lost if Magneto losses. Quicksilver acts quickly and demands Cortez amplify his speed allowing him to free his father from the earthen tomb. Magneto retaliates by encasing his opponent in metal strips. Zealot screams out a prophetic message before he is cast out into space: Magneto will use Genosha to support his own agenda.

Rogue stares in disbelief. She remains unwilling to condone murder, yet Quicksilver prevents her from acting. His father is now his responsibility.

Voght has one more thing to show Quicksilver before he makes a decision. She teleports him to a Legacy Virus detention camp outside Hammer Bay. In addition to the ravages of the recent civil war, fear of the deadly mutant disease grips the nation. Magneto may have an ulterior motive, but Genosha needs his strong leadership.

Apocalypse walks through another part of the capital city unnoticed. He smiles at the corpses littering the streets. They are signs that the final conflict draws near – the Age of Apocalypse approaches.

Magneto meets with the island’s human elite. He will allow some key members to stay. Their money and influence will help rebuild the country. All other humans will be given 48 hours to leave before the borders close. Magneto’s council debates the mandate, but the new ruler refuses to hear any dissent.

Quicksilver returns with a decision to stay in Genosha. He will serve as a counterbalance to his father’s rule. Magneto agrees. Voght later learns that the trip to the Legacy Virus camp was designed to sway Quicksilver. Magneto wanted his son at his side.

Rogue leaves saddened by the loss of the relationship she once shared with Magneto. She gives him a warning. The X-Men will be watching and waiting. The X-Men will be there to stop him.
