Norbett Mealy entrances Stanley with his tales of romantic fantasy that he says his publishers keep rejecting because kids are more interested in science fiction. He goes to take the story to his publisher. Norbett has an identical twin brother named Corbett who is a mad scientist. Norbett gave Corbett harmless devices to wotrk with because Norbett desires to make a death ray. He succeeds in making a ray that he has hidden inside the belly of a rocking horse. Stanley returns realizing that he has left his cap on Mr. Mealy's lawn, only to find that it is gone. He knocks on Mr. Mealy's door and mistakes Corbett for Norbett. His friends come to rescue him, but Corbett uses the ray on them, causing Schnitzel to grow, Massachusetts to shrink, and Shaugnessy to become invisible.
