Synopsis:
Superman, a man from a dying planet where civilization was far more advanced came to Earth as a baby and developed incredible powers as he matured.

Notes:
Reprinted from Superman (1939) #1.

Much of the story is a reprint of the Action Comics (1938) #1 story, although the actual origin story is the first example in DC comics long tradition of "retconning" character histories. In Action, the baby Kal-El is said to have been given to an orphanage by a passing motorist. Here, he is discovered by the Kents, who raise him as their foster (though not apparently adopted) child. This expanded origin story also includes the first reference to Krypton. Ma Kent's first name is given here as "Mary"--one of the many indications that this is firmly an Earth 2 story.
Per Secret Origins (1986) #1, this story is confirmed as taking place on Earth-2.
