2008-02-20 19:38:45 MarkLipka Bio Mark Lipka is a comic book artist who has inked such comics as Batman, Star Wars, JLA, Wolverine, Gambit & Bishop, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing, and many others. He's been fortunate enough to work with many talented pencillers such as Cary Nord, Rick Leonardi, Yanick Paquette, Roger Petersen, Karl Waller, Adam Hughes, Toby Cypress, Rick Burchett, Steve McNiven, Steve Scott, Joe Phillips, Tom Raney and many more. Mark's first comic work (for which he got paid) was for ROCK FANTASY COMICS (Publisher Michael Valentine Smith) in 1991. The story was a whimsical, fictious scenario in which Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac) taught Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath) the magical arts. Unfortunately, the book never saw publication. Mark worked for several independent comic book publishers throughout the mid-1990s while creating commercial art projects and working in a wide variety of fields - related and unrelated. Mark first had work published ("Savage Dragon: Sex & Violence")for a major publisher (Image) in 1997 after making great improvements in his work due to receiving mentoring from friend and fellow artist Karl Waller (then both living in Lancaster, Pennsylvania), and Nathan Massengill (also a friend and fellow artist). (Mark recommends working with Erik Larsen highly as he is friendly, garrulous, supportive, and just plain funny.) Shortly after starting The Savage Dragon book, Mark started receiving mentoring from Brian Stelfreeze. ... Mark is also known as "the Jackie Robinson of CrossGen comics". At the out-set, CrossGen had vowed not to use freelance talent in the creation of their books. (only in-house talent) Deadline constraints and disgruntled in-house talent made the use of freelancers a necessity and Mark was the first freelancer to work for CrossGen.
