Bio:
She was raised by Armenian, artist parents who had studied in Florence, Italy. Monica’s father and brother are Architects and her mother was an Interior Decorator. A few months after the revolution in 1979, Monica left Iran for London, moving to Paris four years later and finally to the US one year after that. She continued to live in Los Angeles, CA, with her family.
Monica studied Art and Make-up/Special Effects. She won a best ‘Character Make-up’ award at Learning Tree University where she was asked to return and teach future students. She speaks Armenian, Farsi, English and French. In the early 90s, Monica worked as a Make-up & FX Artist for Film and Print. She would not really have considered quitting her job as a Make-up Artist – until she discovered comic books!
In 1994, she began digitally colouring comic books for Electric Crayon. The titles she worked on included Uncanny X-Men, Generation-X, Hulk and Spider-Man. She freelanced for Marvel Comics after Electric Crayon switched owners.
In 1996, Monica—along with her husband, 3D artist Dean Kubina—started Colorgraphix Productions, providing digital colour separation for comic books. Eventually, Colorgraphix added 2D/3D modelling, texturing and animation to their services.
Monica textures characters and environments after Dean models, rigs and animates them. Together they have collaborated on various 3D projects ranging from print to video games.
In addition to working for Teshkeel and Marvel, Monica has also worked on projects for a number of other comic book companies including Chaos! Acclaim, Dark Horse, Top Cow and Tokyopop.
