2012-04-19 14:04:49 aaronmoish Alias Silver Surfer (01 - Norrin Radd) Silver Surfer (Marvel)
2010-08-22 16:25:53 poison_mouth Bio First and "most favored" Herald of Galaxus, 'whose power was inspired by the Riders of the Sea'. THE ORIGIN Norrin-Radd lived on the planet Zen-Laa which was at least thousands of years more advanced than us. All their world's social problems had been solved. No poverty, no war. No one had to work for anything. Like Star Trek, but peaceful. They've only got one weapon. It was called ... the Ultimate Weapon. If some hostile entity comes along they obliterate it. In theory ... they've never had to actually use it. Norrin-Radd hates this life with not challenges. He's got an explorer's spirit. He wants to till the soil, etc. He yearns for the time when cavemen hunted and gathered and the pioneers travelled into the wild, undiscovered country ... well, if he was on Earth those are the times he would look back to. His girlfriend, Shalla-Ball, and others urge him to relax and enjoy life. Then Galactus comes along. Galactus eats planets. He converts their matter to energy and eats the energy. Norrin-Radd flies out to meet him and talk him out of it. Galactus explains, dispassionately, "I must feed. I don't have time to find out which planets have intelligent life and which planets don't." Norrin-Radd says, "Spare my planet, and I'll work for you. I'll be your herald and go find you suitable planets to eat that have no innocent life on them." Galactus and grants him The Power Cosmic which makes him pretty freaking powerful. He will miss Shalla-Ball but not as much as he'll enjoy the adventure. Or so he thinks. He misses her constantly. Really bad. At some point... like ... maybe thousands of years later he's taking too long to find an uninhabited planet so Galactus says "I must feed! Forget it, I'm just gonna eat this blue and green one over here (that would be Earth." Silver Surfer betrays him and with the help of the Fantastic Four and together they fend off Galactus. Galactus punishes the Surfer by making a barrier that surrounds Earth which everyone else in the universe can pass through it but the Surfer. Henceforth, he's trapped on this primitive planet where everyone hates him and is scared of him. Once in a while, he gets a chance to break through but inevitably, someone needs help only he can provide and he sacrifices his chance for escape to help them and remains trapped here. Eventually, the Surfer did escape Earth and once more travelled the cosmos. SPOILERS: In Annihilation: Silver Surfer #3, he becomes - once again - Herald to Galactus. Galactus forgives him for his disobedience and grants him even more power(s). First and "most favored" Herald of Galactus, 'whose power was inspired by the Riders of the Sea'. 2006-07-12 17:33:06 jaysprout Powers The Power Cosmic. From Wikipedia.com: "He has the ability to channel ambient cosmic energy into his body at will, and expel it violently as concussive force or gently as a means to restructure molecules according to his mental design. The Surfer can generate beams of energy with sufficient destructive force to destroy a planet or, by contrast, generate such subtle amounts of energy to restructure the molecules of the natural pigments within a plant to change its color. The Surfer can rearrange the molecules of matter to create other configurations and can even directly transmute elements. While he can use his power to revitalize life energies and heal the wounded, there is no proof that he can create life from nothingness or return the dead to life. The Surfer possesses vast superhuman strength. Additionally, the Surfer can use the Power Cosmic to amplify his physical strength to a level at least rivaling that of an enraged Savage Hulk. In addition, his body can move and react at superhuman velocities, he routinely navigates asteroid fields and attacks entire amaradas of starships at near light speed while maintaining surgical precision. The Silver Surfer has certain cosmic energy-enhanced perceptions which enable him, through concentration, to become aware of the patterns of energy which surround him. Accordingly, he can sense great concentrations or deployments of energy in a great range, the extent of which is undetermined but is at least on an intra-galactic scale. He has a special affinity for the life energies of living beings, and can use his cosmic powers to augment them to a certain degree. The Surfer's other senses are also thus enhanced: he has demonstrated the ability to see as far as a light year while concentrating and without obstructions to his line of sight. Although the Surfer's senses are superhumanly keen, his sometimes detached and introspective nature occasionally leaves him unaware of his surroundings."
