Warlock of Ys (DC)

2006-09-07 15:31:55 DarthSkeptical Bio The Warlock was the ruler of a dimension called Ys, or, colloquially, "the Other Side of the World". He is sometimes referred to as "Lord Ys".

Along with The Druid, the Warlock of Ys was responsible for imprisoning Zatara. He was defeated once by Zatanna and Green Lantern Hal Jordan, and subsequently by Zatanna, Green Lantern and the whole JLA when he attempted an act of revenge.

2006-09-07 15:31:55 DarthSkeptical Notes Though a relatively minor figure in terms of total appearances, he was nevertheless central to two key storylines in DC history. He was the main villain in DC's (and indeed American comic history's) first major crossover event, "The Search for Zatara". Almost 40 years after this event, he showed up to ruin the JLA/JSA traditional Thanksgiving meal along with Kulak the Sorcerer.
It is assumed that because he comes from a different (and largely undefined) dimension altogether from the normal DCU, monikers such as "pre-Crisis" and "post-Crisis" do not apply, as such, to this character. This is in marked contrast to other extra-dimensional characters, like Mxyzptlk, where enough details have emerged over the years to more solidly define the difference between the various versions of the character.
