2011-03-05 09:02:33 aaronmoish Bio The son of Dan Reid, Jr. and Margaret (Sanford) Reid, Britt Reid went to work as a crime reporter for the Daily Sentinel newspaper in 1934. In 1935, he travelled to Japan, where he saved the life of Ikano Kato. Kato then returned with Britt to the States. In 1936, inspired by his father's stories of his adventures riding with the Lone Ranger, Britt's grand-uncle, and outraged at the crime he saw running rampant in the city, Britt adopted the guise of the Green Hornet. In 1945, the Green Hornet went into semi-retirement, only working on a few highly important cases until 1966, when his nephew, Britt Reid II, took up the mantle. Britt Reid I was killed in 1989. 2007-03-23 20:29:16 MadMikeyD Bio The series detailed the adventures of Britt Reid, debonair newspaper publisher by day, crime-fighting masked hero at night, along with his sidekick, Kato, a Japanese. With the outbreak of World War II his Japanese heritage was almost completely dropped, to be eventually replaced with Filipino. A widespread urban legend has been the claim that the show's writers switched from one nationality to the other immediately after the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, but the first disappeared well before direct US involvement in the war, and the latter was not initially given until much later, with nothing more specific than "Oriental" being said in the interim. (When the characters were used in the first of a pair of movie serials, producers of 1939 had Kato's nationality given as Korean.) Reid is a close relative of The Lone Ranger. The character of Dan Reid, who appeared on the Lone Ranger program as the Masked Man's nephew, was also featured on the Green Hornet as Britt's father, making the Green Hornet the grand-nephew of The Lone Ranger!
