Mabel Harrison was the mother of Randolph Harrison. Randolph, described as a hippie, had left his parent's place three months prior to listen to a speech given by the man known as The Word, and had never returned home.
It turned out The Word was a cult leader, and using the persuasive power of his words, was able to amass a large following, including that of his daughter, Ultima, who was Randolph's girlfriend.
Worried for their son, Mabel and her husband Arnold, sought out Assistant D.A. Buck Bukowski, asking for advice. He told them legally, as Randolph was an adult, there was nothing they could do, still, he referred them to Jennifer Walters (The She-Hulk), who agreed to help them.
Jennifer drove out to The World's compound under the guise that she was interested in joining The Word's following. She was greeted and given the tour and then asked to see Randolph, not realizing the man giving her the tour was Randolph. His appearance was so cleaned up she didn't recognize him.
Randolph warned The Word that Jennifer may have been sent by his parents. Still, he ended up signing a document that Jennifer had prepared saying that he was being held against his will. When Ultima saw the two of them together, she was angry, as Randolph was her boyfriend. She tried to bring Jennifer to her father, but she transformed into The She-Hulk and was able to easily get away with the signed document.
Angry that The She-Hulk had defeated her, as Ultima had been trained by her father since birth to be a peak human specimen (she was able to lift a car with almost no effort), she convinced her father and Randolph to quickly go up against Jennifer in court and destroy her there, allowing Randolph to stay with them. The Word used his persuasive ways and ended up getting a trial set for the very next day.
During the trial, Mabel was called to the stand, and because The Word was so good at manipulating people with his words, she became quite confused and wasn't a particularly good witness. Then The Word, acting as his own attorney called Randolph. It was here that Randolph sprung the truth... that he had only signed the papers to figure out what Jennifer Walters was doing there and that the charges were completely fabricated by her.
During this time in her early life as She-Hulk, Jennifer was suffering from a degenerative blood disease, and it was at it's worse during the trial. She was barely able focus, and when Randolph laid out the truth, she became so enraged that she had to run out of the courtroom as she began to transform into the She-Hulk. Ultima recognized Jennifer's behavior from their prior encounter and realized the two were the same. She followed and the two battled. Ultima was able to hold her own in the battle as She-Hulk was incredibly weak from the degenerative blood disease. Still, She-Hulk was able to gain the upper hand and was so enraged she was about to crush Ultima with a car. Realizing what she was doing, she stopped short, it was at this moment however that Randolph intervened and knocked the She-Hulk's legs out from under her. The car fell backwards and was going to crush Randolph. Ultima used her quick reflexes to push him out of the way, saving the life of her boyfriend. The car fell on her and crushed her spinal cord and left her mute.
Randolph returned home with his parents and The Word took Ultima away for a brief time before they reappeared to do battle with The Thing and The Human Torch.
