Powers:
Karma generates a pulse from his brain that he can use to interfere with workings of the brains of anyone in his immediate vicinity who he knows is trying to attack him. Thus, Karma can prevent would-be assailants from touching him. However, Karma must be aware of his opponents' presence in order to direct the pulse against them.

Bio:
Arani Desai learned of the powers of Wayne Hawkins and sent him a letter summoning him to Doom Patrol Headquarters in Kansas City. While on the mezzanine of a shopping mall, Wayne is attacked for his punk looks by a musclebound prep. He uses his pulse to dodge the attack, and the other youth falls to his death. The fall and Wayne's presence is observed, but not the events leading up to it. Convinced that the police will never believe that the youth fell of his own accord, he goes on the run.

He quickly feels out of place among the Doom Patrol, finding Rhea Jones and Scott Fischer too preppy for his style. He also gets annoyed that Rhea is allowed into action much earlier than he is, even though he joined only a few weeks later, eventually concluding that it is because his power has only defensive uses. On a visit to another mall with Rhea and Scott, the three are attacked by Shrapnel while the others are in Nicaragua. Shrapnel is immune to the pulse, and Wayne is lucky to escape with his life, having had a snow-covered trellis fall upon him.

When Joshua Clay becomes aware that Wayne is on the run from the police, he flees again, considering himself unsafe among the Patrol.
