Cybermen (from Mondas)
Real Name:
Search for 'Cybermen (from Mondas)' on Amazon

Bio:
These Cybermen are the ones that have been associated with Doctor Who for most of its history. They are distinct from the Cybus Industries Cybermen, which have a completely different origin and motivation.

These Cybermen were occupants of the planet Mondas, a "hidden" planet, and Earth twin, in this solar system. When Mondas' population began to thin, and life on their planet became endangered, they slowly started to add cybernetic elements to their bodies to help reduce their dependence on their dying world. Eventually, their society turned into a mostly cybernetic one, in search of a world they could inhabit.

These Cybermen have thus been variously depicted as everything from world conquerors to the "last of their kind" to almost desperate creatures. But mostly their back story goes unreferenced and they're seen as little more than scary robots.

Notes:
At right are various images of the Cybermen. Their visual design has changed a lot over the years. As time permits, additional images will be added here, each denoting the version number. The "version number" is relative to the design order as seen in the television series. Thus, "Version 1.0" is that seen in "The Tenth Planet", the first Cyberman televised adventure. Version 4 is that which came a little later, around the time of "Revenge of the Cybermen".

A "Cyber Controller" is typically the lead Cyberman in any particular story. However, as they are typically destroyed as a part of the Doctor's ultimate victory, each Cyber story tends to have a new Cyber Controller.

These have the most design variations of all. The design element common to most, but not all, Cyber Controllers is that their brains are visible through a clear (or at least translucent) head dome.

Cyber Controllers tend to have no recognizable personality, so there's no way to really distinguish between them. For this reason, no attempt will be made in this database to separate Cyber Controllers from the rest of the Cybermen in a given story. But the picture at right gives you a general idea of how to visually recognize who's in charge in a given story.
